13 December 2021 @ 6.30pm
Newcastle City Council have today (13 December 2021) identified a leak on the district heating system affecting the heating and hot water to 500 homes on the Byker Estate, including Byker Primary School and Avondale House.
Engineers are on site and temporary boilers will be installed tomorrow and connected to the district heating system. The last update we have had is that they [the council] expect the service to fully resume within the next 24 to 48 hours.
The comfort of our customers is our top priority and we’re working closely with Newcastle City Council to ensure their service is back up and running as soon as possible.
Customers should have access to a full tank of hot water and we ask that you try and preserve this for as long as possible, however, the heating to your property may be affected from 7pm this evening. Customers with electric showers will continue to receive hot water as normal.
All customers affected will receive a call from our team to inform them of the situation. We will deliver a portable electric heater this evening to all affected homes or a heater will be available to collect from the neighbourhood housing office at 17 Raby Cross this evening.
Customers will receive a credit to cover the additional costs of running the heaters. Further information will be provided tomorrow.
Our neighbourhood housing office will remain open until later this evening to support customers and we’ll provide a further update as soon as one is available from the council.
We will call all affected customers in the next couple of hours or you can pop down to the housing office and speak to a member of our team. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused but please be assured we are doing all we can to ensure you are as comfortable in your homes as possible in the meantime.
