Sheltered Housing

We have two sheltered housing schemes both of which have undergone significant regeneration work: Mount Pleasant House located on Headlam Street and Tom Collins House located on Dunn Terrace. Both schemes have dedicated staff who offer support, advice and assistance to current and prospective customers.

The Sheltered Housing staff are as follows:

Mechelle Wilson – Scheme Co-ordinator for Mount Pleasant and Tom Collins House

Emma Foulis – Neighbourhood Housing Officer for Tom Collins House

Jennifer Carson – Neighbourhood Housing Officer for Mount Pleasant

Mechelle is the first point of contact for customers and works between Tom Collins House and Mount Pleasant. Outside of these hours, please report all emergency repairs by telephoning 0800 533 5442.

Mount Pleasant House

Mount Pleasant is situated on Headlam Street, just behind Shields Road in Byker.  It’s close to all local amenities including shops, chemists, library, Metro station and the post office. There is also a very good local bus service.

Each flat has its own lounge, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Flats for couples have larger rooms.

Tom Collins House

Tom Collins House is situated next to Dunn Terrace and is only a short distance from Shields Road. It is ideally situated for local shopping, the post office, chemists and other local amenities. It is very close to local bus routes and the metro station, with easy access to Newcastle City Centre.

What will my flat be like?

All flats are suitable for couples or single people and are very spacious and have their own w.c and bathroom. All flats are self-contained and have central heating. There is also a large communal garden, which is fenced off for the privacy of residents and can be used at your leisure. Your flat also has a magnificent view of the River Tyne and the Millennium Bridge.

How much will it cost?

The average rent for a flat in one of our sheltered schemes is approximately £100 per week. This includes basic rent and heating plus charges for the services we provide. We’ll tell you if this changes and we’ll try to keep the cost as low as possible.
