Byker is situated in a great location, close to the city centre with lots of facilities both on the Estate and within a 10 to 15 minute walk. It’s the perfect location for shopping and leisure. With the Metro and excellent bus services situated on the Estate, Byker offers easy access to the whole of the region.
The Estate has churches, two primary schools (Church of England and Roman Catholic), a pub, social clubs and its own shops. There is a library, swimming pool, gym and even a climbing wall nearby. The BCT Neighbourhood Office is located in the centre of the Estate and provides a wide range of services to help you.
There is a great sense of community within the BCT Estate. There are active tenants and residents groups who have a strong sense of pride in their homes and are passionate about improving the area for themselves, their families and their neighbours. Byker Community Trust embraces other cultures, with over 30 languages spoken on the Estate.

The ownership of 1,800 homes on the Estate formally transferred from Byker Community Trust to Karbon Homes on 1 April 2021.
The transfer will bring new and accelerated investment into the Estate between 2021 to 2029, delivering better value for money and helping to achieve the priorities that BCT customers said were important to them.
The management area will continue to be called Byker Community Trust, the local office and team have stayed in situ and all of the housing services in Byker will be delivered by Karbon.
BCT has a wide range of properties in all different sizes, so there’s something for everyone. Homes are modern, warm and cosy. There are smaller flats which are also suitable for students and the Estate is close to the two universities and colleges in Newcastle. There are also a large number of spacious family homes and two sheltered housing schemes for older residents on the Estate.
Our homes also offer lots of outdoor space where you can sit outside to meet with your neighbours or let your children play.
The Estate was designed and built to tie in with the landscape, so many properties have great views and are south/south west facing so get lots of sunshine.
Set weekly heating charge
As a BCT customer, you will benefit from the district heating system, which means that you get unlimited hot water and heating for a set weekly charge. This means that in the winter, you don’t have to worry about getting large heating bills for keeping the heating on.
