Construction skills course

Interested in a career in construction but don't know where to start?  

There’s a construction course on offer at the Housing Innovation & Construction Skills Academy (HICSA) for those needing some help getting into the industry. The academy is based in Sunderland but travel will be reimbursed by Karbon Homes.  

 

Course Details: 

  • Location: Sunderland College, HICSA, Hay Street, Sunderland, SR5 1BG 

  • Start Date: Monday 29th June – Friday 10th July 2026 

  • Time: 9:30am – 15:30pm (Monday to Friday) 

  

Eligibility: 

  • Be aged 19 years old or over on or before 01/08/2025. 

  • Permanent Resident in the UK 

  • Be unemployed or working part-time. 

  • Be in receipt of benefits. 

  • Be eligible to work in the UK. 

  • Not already hold a Level 2 or higher qualification in the same field as this course.  

  

What you will gain: 

  • 4 site tickets (Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness, Abrasive Wheels, Working at Heights) 

  • CSCS Green Card 

  • NOCN E3 Award in Using Employability Skills 

  • NOCN L1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment 

  • NOCN L1 Award in Basic Construction Skills 

  • Participants will meet Caddick Construction on the first day of the course. At the end of the course, learners who wish to take their first step into the industry can be considered for an interview for an unpaid work experience placement, helping them gain practical experience and enhance their employability.
