Youth support charity receive much needed facility upgrades with support from Karbon Homes and RE:GEN

Youth support charity Foundation Futures have received much needed facility upgrades thanks to Karbon Homes and RE:GEN.

The charity, who offers a variety of services and support to young and vulnerable people and the wider community in the east end of Newcastle are based at one of The Byker Estate’s hobby rooms, The Chevron.

The hub is a hive of activity with sessions being ran there on an almost daily basis, however the kitchen facilities were in much need of replacement.

Through a series of projects designed to promote pride in place, Foundation Futures have worked closely with Karbon Homes’ Place Team who were able to provide funding for a new kitchen for The Chevron.

The Place Team provided over £16,000 of funding, with an additional £5000 worth of work from contractor RE:GEN who are carrying out investment works across the estate, to install the new kitchen and carry out electrical wiring upgrades in the hobby room.

Victoria Keen, Place Partnership Strategic Lead at Karbon Homes, said: “We’ve worked with Foundation Futures and its youth groups on a series of street art projects in Byker and they’ve always brought a huge amount of support and enthusiasm to our work.

Being able to fund this new kitchen for the charity means they'll be able to provide a better service and experience to the Byker Community and that's exactly what we want from the work we’re doing in Byker.”

Jennie Maughan, Director of Youth and Community Engagement at Foundation Futures, said: “The feedback from the community has been great and we're so pleased they now have such a lovely space to be in. Having the new kitchen and space for our washing machine now allows the community members to participate in more activities such as cooking and life skills workshops.

“The RE:GEN team went above and beyond and despite to job not being straightforward, they made sure everything was finished.

“We’re looking forward to using the space for years to come and want to thank both Karbon Homes and Regen for supporting us with the renovation."
