Investment

In Byker, providing high quality homes is one of our top priorities. Since July 2012, BCT has invested £45.5m (at September 24) worth of improvements on the Byker Estate.

BCT’s investment programme has been delivering a number of different projects to refurbish and improve homes and the neighbourhood.

Bathroom, Kitchen and Internal Doors

As part of the transfer of engagements to Karbon Homes in 2021 the Community Pledge promised to invest additional funding to modernise homes by installing new bathrooms with showers, replace internal doors and install new kitchens. RE:GEN Group were contracted to carry out these works and the programme has been running since 2021, RE:GEN are continuing to deliver these improvement works to all homes across the estate.

External Decoration

The external painting programme across the estate is due to start in 2024 and will run until April 2025. Work includes the external painting of doors, windows, and all external woodwork on customer homes.

We externally redecorate all homes on the estate every 7 years and customers can get in touch to enquire when their home is due for redecoration.

Environmental Upgrade

As part of the transfer of engagements to Karbon Homes in 2021 the Community Pledge promised improvements to the external environment such as waste and litter management, new fencing, trees, green open spaces and play areas. We’ve been working with our customers and JDDK architects to develop a masterplan of the estate to meet these investment priorities.

The estate has been separated into 11 neighbourhood areas for the implementation of the works, all of which have their own unique characteristics. Dunn Terrace will be the first neighbourhood area to benefit from the improvements and consultations will be held with customers in each area as the project progresses.
