At the beginning of December, Newcastle City Council, who own and manage the district heating system, identified four leaks on the network which affected the heating and hot water supply to 1,300 homes.
Temporary boilers were brought in to reinstate heating and hot water supplies to customers’ homes and these boilers are now in place at all substations across the Estate. This will allow engineers to carry out essential repair works to the network while maintaining a heating and hot water supply to your home.
From tomorrow (Wednesday 2 February), Newcastle City Council engineers will begin excavation work in two areas of the Estate. This will be at Gordon Road, on the grass verge just outside the wall next to Gordon House at the junction with Dalton Street, and at the Chirton substation, on the grassed area next to the plant room.
The excavation will involve digging up some paths and grass verges to assess the extent of damage to these two sections of underground pipework and to determine what repairs need to be made. This will then give us an indication of how long it will take to complete any necessary repairs. This work will not cause any disruption to the heating and hot water supply to homes in this area.
The initial excavation work is expected to take approximately one week.
