Byker Community Trust (BCT) housing association is launching a series of estate walkabouts starting this week as part of the new ‘Byker Approach’ to housing management.
BCT owns and manages 1,800 homes on the iconic Grade II* listed Byker Estate and as part of the new ‘Byker Approach’ to housing management, neighbourhood housing officers will carry out regular walkabouts of their specific areas to discuss any issues tenants may have.
The first walkabout will commence this Wednesday, January 11 at 1.00pm from Byker YMCA with housing officer Craig Cross who will visit the areas he looks after on the Estate and is encouraging tenants to join him.
As well as working with tenants to look after their homes, tenancy and neighbourhood, BCT’s housing officers are also working to tackle issues of anti-social behaviour and untidy gardens.
Mark Berry, Neighbourhood Operations Manager for BCT, said: “Tenants said they wanted more opportunities to discuss estate issues with BCT and one of those will be to join their neighbourhood housing officer on an estate walkabout. Our housing officers are responsible for certain areas on the Estate and we have publicised this with tenants in our newsletter, on a flyer and on our website.
“We are passionate about providing excellent housing services and developing thriving communities that our tenants are proud to live in and we are listening to tenants and encouraging them to come forward with their thoughts and views and improve our Estate. If tenants can’t join our officers during these times, then they can still contact us through the normal channels via telephone, email, website or drop into the housing office at 17 Raby Cross.”
All estate walkabouts during January will commence at 1.00pm and will be carried out on the following:
Thursday 12th January, Emma Foulis from Byker Community Centre
Wednesday 18th January, Jen Elliott from 17 Raby Cross
Thursday 19th January, Ruth Clifford from the old Your Homes Newcastle Housing Office
Estate walkabouts will be carried out throughout the year in April, July and October and more information will be sent to tenants nearer the time.
