Byker video shortlisted for award

The digital version of Byker Community Trust’s (BCT) annual report to tenants has been shortlisted in the ‘Excellence in Annual Reports’ category of the TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) Northern awards 2017.

BCT is one of seven housing association’s who has been shortlisted under the category and the winner will be announced at the finals held in Manchester on April 7.

In addition to the printed version of the annual report to tenants, members of the Tenant Communications Group suggested the association produced a short video production of the annual report to engage with a wider audience.

The Tenant Communications Group is made up of tenants who meet every two months to look at how BCT communicates with tenants and reviews publications before they are published.

The production of a video is a culmination of years of hard work and trust that has built up within the group. In their first meeting for the video production of the annual report to tenants, they literally started with a blank sheet of paper and contributed ideas on what they thought should be featured.  Giving tenants full control over the production also increased their satisfaction and enhanced their experience.

David Jones, Head of Engagement & Community Development at BCT, said: “This is a great achievement not only for BCT but members of the Tenant Communications Group who deserve the recognition for co-ordinating the full production of the video.

“Despite having no previous training or experience, members of the group not only starred in the production but also worked hard behind the scenes to deliver a production that tenants could be proud of.”

‘Our Byker, Our Community, Our Tenants’ video can be viewed on BCT’s website at and winners of the Northern finals will automatically progress through to the national final in Warwick in July.  We’ll keep you posted.
